Sheriff Dave Favro is proud to serve the residents of Clinton County. Born and raised in Plattsburgh, he has dedicated more than four decades to public service and law enforcement. First elected Sheriff in 2002, he made a commitment to make Clinton County safer, stronger, and better for everyone—and continues to deliver on that promise today.

A Career of Service

Prior to being elected Sheriff, Dave served for 20 years with the City of Plattsburgh Police Department as both an officer and detective. During that time, he distinguished himself through his leadership and commitment to the community, including helping establish the D.A.R.E. program to educate and protect local youth. He also served as president of the NYS Juvenile Officers Association.

Proven Leadership & Accomplishments

As Sheriff, Dave Favro has led the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office through significant growth, modernization, and innovation. His leadership has resulted in:

  • Expansion of the Clinton County Correctional Facility from a 92-bed to a 300-bed facility

  • Creation of a regional Special Response Team serving Clinton, Essex, and Franklin counties

  • Strengthened partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies

  • Forward-thinking approaches to the opioid crisis, focusing on both enforcement and access to treatment

  • Expansion of school safety initiatives, including School Resource Officers and D.A.R.E. education for students across the county

  • Cost-saving and revenue-generating initiatives that have saved taxpayers millions of dollars

Through collaboration, innovation, and responsible leadership, Sheriff Favro has positioned Clinton County as a leader in public safety.

Sheriff Favro believes that strong communities are the foundation of effective law enforcement. He has remained actively involved in Clinton County beyond his role as Sheriff, serving on local boards, volunteering his time, and supporting youth programs.

He is a co-founder of the Plattsburgh Police Athletic League (PAL) football program and has served as a member and chair of the Clinton Community College Board of Trustees, where he helped oversee the selection of a new president and the development of the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing.

A Focus on Family

Dave has been married to his wife, Lori, for over 40 years. Together, they have raised three children—Adam, Amanda, and Andrew—and are proud grandparents to five grandchildren.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dave enjoys restoring antique cars and working on carpentry projects. He values time spent with his family and takes pride in the life they have built in Clinton County.
